Cayman Islands
The Cayman Islands is a British Overseas Territory lying just under 500 miles south of Miami.
There are, in fact, three islands – Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Grand Cayman is the largest and most populated of the three. Little Cayman and Cayman Brac are about 90 miles away with a seven mile sea channel dividing them. All three are the tops of a submerged mountain range called the Cayman Ridge. Their limestone rock means that there are no rivers on the islands and the resulting lack of runoff means that the surrounding sea has excellent viz, often more than 40m.
Grand Cayman is about 22 miles long and 8 miles wide at its widest point. Cayman Brac is 12 miles long and a little more than a mile wide with a dramatic 140 foot cliff at its eastern end. Little Cayman is the smallest at 10 miles long and one mile wide and rises to only 40 feet above
